FarmStrong caps City of Sequim’s ‘Plaza’ program

The City of Sequim City Arts Advisory Commission caps the 2017 schedule for the “Performers on the Plaza” program on Friday, Aug. 25, with local folk/rock/blues/Motown band FarmStrong. GardenMusic comes to PT

The Olympic Music Festival presents musicians from GardenMusic (pictured above) at 2 p.m. Aug. 26-27 at Fort Worden’s Wheeler Theater. Led by Teddy Abrams, festival veteran and Louisville Orchestra music director Teddy Abrams, the musicians from GardenMusic are a group of versatile classical musicians who break down barriers between musical styles by performing classical works in original arrangements alongside music from the jazz, Latin and blues among other folk traditions.

The musicians from GardenMusic also will present a concert for children and their families at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 27; that show has already sold out, but tickets are still available for the ensemble’s two main performances.

Quartet to play in barn

The Ajax String Quartet takes the stage during the third weekend of the 2017 season of Concerts in the Barn at Alan Iglitzin’s historical barn, 7630 Center Road, Quilcene. The quartet, which holds the position of graduate string quartet in residence at the University of Colorado, will perform two separate programs, the first on Saturday, Aug 26, and the second on Sunday, Aug 27. Both are at 2 p.m. Concerts in the Barn are free. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Guests with mobility issues can call 360-732-0732 before the day of the concert to ensure an aisle seat will be reserved for them.

Fourth Friday Readings on tap

The next Fourth Friday Readings is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at The Lodge’s media room, 660 Evergreen Farm Way, Sequim.

Sponsored by Writers on the Spit, this is an entire night of five-minute open mic readings. Community members are invited to bring poems, short-short stories or memoir/novel snippets.
