Rhody O’s hosts ice cream social, introduction lesson

The Rhody O’s Square Dance Club is offering beginning square dance lessons starting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the Gardiner Community Center. All are invited to a free ice cream social and introductory dance lesson. Lessons are held each Tuesday evening through the autumn and winter with graduation in late spring.

There is absolutely no experience necessary. The Rhody O’s are an informal group who dance in shorts and jeans and sometimes their gardening clothes. For more information, contact Walt at 360-683-0622.

Accordion social is Sept. 10

The Sequim Accordion Social will be at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., Sequim, from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10. A $2-$3 admission donation is requested at the door to pay for the room. The featured player is Andy Mirkovich from Samammish. All players should bring their accordion and a song or two to play, and accordion lovers and dancers are invited to attend for some great music.

RSVP for symphony dinner

The Port Angeles Symphony invites the public to celebrate the winners of the symphony’s 2017 Young Artist Competition. A dinner with music is set for 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at Cest Si Bon, 23 Cedar Park Drive, Port Angeles. Tickets are $75; call 457-5579 for reservations.

Concert in Barn series continues

Concerts in the Barn welcomes festival favorites Charles Wetherbee (violin), Korine Fujiwara (viola), Walter Gray (cello) and David Korevaar (piano) for the fourth weekend of chamber music of the 2017 season.

The quartet plays at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, at 7630 Center Road in Quilcene.

Like other events during the Concerts in the Barn series, both concerts are free. They play two Schubert pieces and Prokofiev on Saturday, and Mozart, Bridge and Brahms on Sunday.

Auditions set for ‘Heisenberg’

The Port Angeles Community Playhouse announces the dates for auditions for the one-act, two-character play “Heisenberg.” Auditions are 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the playhouse, 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

Directed by Jim Dries of Sequim, the play chronicles the meeting of two very different individuals who find a connection in spite of their seemingly great differences. It contains some adult material.

Women auditioning for the part should be between 40-55. Men should be between 60-75. Rehearsals begin in mid-January and performances run for three weekends beginning Feb. 23-25.

The play continues the first two weekends in March (2-4, 9-11). Copies of the script are available in the public libraries in both Port Angeles and Sequim.

OMF sets pair of concerts

For the production’s fifth weekend, Olympic Music Festival presents “Between Worlds” on Saturday, Sept. 2, and “Beyond Virtuosity” on Sunday, Sept. 3, at Fort Worden’s Wheeler Theater. “Between Worlds” contrasts the works of Beethoven and Schubert while “Beyond Virtuosity” features works by Ravel, Bach and Brahms.
