Puget Sound Anglers to meet

The North Olympic Peninsula Chapter of Puget Sound Anglers hosts an open-to-the-public general meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Rd. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7 p.m.

The speaker is Thomas Sewid, president of Pacific Balance Marine Management, which works to protect salmon and other fin fish by harvesting seals and sea lions (pinnipeds). Presently, only Native Americans can protect their fishing nets and fish by shooting pinnipeds.

Thomas will speak on how the campaign since 2018 has helped decrease pinniped numbers in some rivers. The redevelopment of a pinniped industry for Canada and the U.S. will be covered. Thomas represents British Columbia on Canada’s National Seal & Seal Harvesters Network, and is one of the leading specialists on seals and sea lions.

Following the presentation, there will be a short business meeting, fishing reports, and then raffle drawings. Raffles are for members only, but those who join that night can participate in the raffle. Annual individual memberships are $25, and a family membership is $35. Membership also includes The Reel News monthly newspaper.
