Writers Read event

Olympic Peninsula Authors invites the public to a free Writers Read event scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 2–3 p.m. at Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St. The theme will be “Works You Love.” Instead of writers sharing their own writing, they will celebrate the words of others.

Everyone is welcome, including those who simply want to listen. You don’t have to be a writer to participate — just bring a passage that has stayed with you, moved you, or shifted something inside you. It might be a poem that opened your eyes, a line from a play that softened your heart, or an excerpt from a favorite book that offered new understanding. (Readings should be no longer than five minutes.)

Blue Whole Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays. For more information, visit bluewholegallery.com.

This program is supported in part by Friends of Sequim Library. For more information, visit NOLS.org/events, email discover@nols.org, or call 360-683-1161.

PA Players auditions

Auditions for the Port Angeles Community Players’ (PACP) winter production “The Play That Goes Wrong,” a comedy by Henry Lewis, Henry Shields and Jonathan Sayer, will take place from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 10-11, on the Playhouse main stage at 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

The show is being directed by Jessica McKenzie and runs March 13-29.

This Olivier Award-winning comedy follows an eager but hapless amateur theatre company as they present their murder mystery, “The Murder at Haversham Manor.” What begins as a simple whodunit spirals into utter mayhem as sets collapse, props vanish, and dialogue goes completely off the rails.

Despite one disaster after another, the determined cast plows ahead, delivering an opening night filled with comic catastrophe.

Casting will be for 8-12 roles, including some non-speaking parts doubling as crew. Actors are encouraged to come prepared with a one-minute comedic monologue (not required) and will be reading from the script.

Reader Scripts are available to peruse at the library branches in Port Angeles and Sequim. For more detailed information, including character descriptions, go to pacommunityplayers.org or email questions to pacommunityplayers@hotmail.com.

Please note: This show is physically demanding. Actors should come to auditions dressed comfortably and ready to move.
