Fiddle music, movie screening, Monday Musicale and more set for Sequim arts and entertainment events

Fiddle music at the Grange

On Saturday, Feb. 13, the Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association meets and performs at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road. Lessons and a meeting for members will be in the morning, with old-time fiddle jamming and open jamming from noon-1:30 p.m. There will be presented a performance by association members from 1:30-3:30 p.m. The first 30 minutes of the performance will be old-time fiddle music followed by country, bluegrass, vocal and fiddle. The program is free and open to the public. Donations are welcome and support fiddle scholarships for youth.

‘Maidentrip’ screens at library

A free screening of the adventure documentary “Maidentrip” will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. Winner of the Port Townsend Film Festival Special Jury Prize for Best First Feature, “Maidentrip” tells the story of 15-year-old Laura Dekker as she sets out — camera in hand — on a two-year voyage to become the youngest person ever to sail around the world alone.The Explore! program series offers introductions to a range of activities available on the Olympic Peninsula and beyond. Yelland to sing at musicale

Monday Musicale will meet in the Queen of Angels Church fellowship hall, 209 W. 11th St., Port Angeles, Monday, Feb. 15. The noon meeting will be followed by 1 p.m. entertainment, which is open to the public. Baritone Joel Yelland will perform art songs and an aria. Call for black and white art entries

The City Arts Advisory Commission is seeking entries of black and white art, in any medium, for the next exhibit to be displayed in the lobby of the Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St. The art pieces must be no larger than 36 inches by 36 inches and not exceed 50 pounds per piece. Deadline for submissions is March 11. The exhibit will be on display from April 1-June 30. All entries will be juried by the CAAC. An artist reception will take place on April 1. OTA presents ballet

Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim, presents “Cinderella” at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Feb. 27 and March 5 featuring the Sequim Ballet Company and Friends. Tickets are $10 and are available at OTA from 1-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

OPAS hosts photo night

The Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society will have its annual photo night from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, at the Dungeness River Audubon Center, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road. This is your chance to show your bird photos to other appreciative bird lovers.

Grange plans sweetheart dance

A Sweetheart Dance with the Buck Ellard Band will be from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, at the Sequim Prairie Grange Hall, 290 Macleay Road. Cost is $10 per person, $15 a couple or $25 a family. Food will be provided. Everyone, including non-dancers, are invited to attend.

Book talk about teens with cancer

John Green’s “The Fault in Our Stars” is the book up for discussion at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. Copies of “The Fault in Our Stars” are available at the Sequim Library in various formats including in regular print, large print, audio e-book, audiobook on CD, Nook, and audio e-book in Spanish; they can be requested online by visiting the library catalog at www.nols.org.
