Beginner rumba lessons set

A four-part group dance lesson for couples in beginner rumba is set for 6-7:30 p.m. on March 6, 13, 20, 27, at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St.

Partners are required. Cost $20 per person for all four lessons, with proceeds donated to Shipley Center.

Pre-registration is required (not open to drop-ins).

Woodturners meeting on tap

The February Strait Turners meeting and demonstration will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road, and on Zoom.

The first half hour is for socializing and setting up the equipment. The meeting will start at noon, with a demonstration starting sat 1 p.m.

Group members won’t host an auction this month; however, they will have a show-and-tell. Attendees are asked to bring items to the meeting or submit photos to the event.

The demonstration this month will feature Brian Johnson, who will turn a winged bowl.

The March meeting and demonstration conflicts with the Oregon Regional Symposium (March 17-19). To encourage everyone to attend this symposium, the board voted to move the Strait Turners’ next meeting and demonstration to Saturday, March 25.

Monday Musicale to meet

Monday Musicale will hold its monthly meeting at noon on Feb. 20 at the fellowship hall at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 209 W. 11th St., Port Angeles.

The entertainment will be Signe Crawford, who’ll sing and play the alto sax and/or the clarenet and Ed Donohue playing the trumpet. They play original music and old favorites.

Membership dues help support music scholarships for Clallam County graduating high school seniors.

Learn to present your own TED talk

Kunal Moon is the featured speaker at the next SKWIM Toastmasters meeting, where, drawing from his extensive background ranging from banking, information technology, political consulting and the arts, he will share what people need to know so that to present their first TED talk.

Attend the SKWIM Toastmasters event at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at the KSQM Radio broadcasting office, 609 W. Washington St., or on Zoom.

This event is free and open to the public, both on-line and in-person. Register for the meeting at tedtalksequim.eventbrite.com.

Leading the meeting will be the Toastmaster for the evening, ME Bartholomew.

“I am excited to learn the mechanics involved with presenting a TED talk,” Bartholomew said.

SKWIM Toastmasters is part of Toastmasters International, a worldwide nonprofit educational organization that “empowers individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders.”

Comedian, actor Rodrigues to perform at PC

Boston-based comedian and actor Corey Rodrigues is returning to Peninsula College for a show at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, in the Little Theater, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

Rodrigues, who has performed on Fox, NBC, Dry Bar Comedy and Gotham Comedy, as well as at colleges, comedy clubs and corporate events all over the country, last performed at Peninsula College in February 2020.

The Feb. 16 show is free to Peninsula College students and by donation to community members.

Rodrigues appeared on late-night TV on the Conan O’Brien Show in 2019 and in 2020, he released a 30-minute comedy special for the EPIX series Unprotected Sets. More recently, Rodrigues has starred in several commercials and in the 2022 streaming film, “Salesman.”

Rodrigues will perform a second show at Pirate Casino Night on Feb. 17 for the athletic department’s fund raiser. Tickets for that show, if not sold out, are $90, and available by contacting Donald Rollman at drollman@pencol.edu.
