Jazz dinner-dance set for Feb. 1
The Sequim High School Band Boosters invites the community to attend this year’s Jazz Dinner Dance, set for 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at the SHS cafeteria, 601 N. Sequim Ave.
One again the lineup features music by the Sequim High School Jazz Band and the Stardust Big Band. Doors open at 6 p.m. and music kicks off at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $25 per person or $45 per couple, with dinner is included.
Tickets are available at the door, at Sequim Animal Hospital (202 N. Seventh Ave.) or Full Moon Candle Co. (609 W. Washington St., Suite 13); cash or check only.
All proceeds benefit Sequim High School band programs.
PC to stage ‘Shattered Ceilings’
“Shattered Ceilings,” a series of plays based on the lives of American patriots, takes the state at 12:35 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, in the Peninsula College Little Theater, 1504 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.
Each actor featured in the plays researched her character and composed a monologue utilizing public speeches, interviews, autobiographies, and other personal writings as source material. Words spoken in each monologue are the actual words of the women being portrayed.
Those represented include Abigail Adams, Alice Paul, Nancy Judson, Susan B. Anthony and Ida B. Wells.
Directed by stage/television actress Carol Swarbrick, the production is presented in co-partnership by The League of Women Voters and Studium Generale.
The event is free and open to the public.

Peninsula Singers seek voices for spring concert
Dr. Jerome Wright, conductor of Peninsula Singers, announced that the group has begun rehearsals for their Spring Concert, set for April 17-19 at Trinity United Methodist Church. Concert pieces include songs from “revue” (Gershwin, Cole Porter) and “dramatic” musicals (Lerner and Loewe, Rodgers and Hammerstein).
Peninsula Singers rehearse 7-9 p.m. each Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Sequim. Interested vocalists should contact Dr. Wright directly at maestro@olympus.net.
Tatom’s art in display
Local artist Jan Tatom has her fiber art on display in “Fashion Fling,” an exhibit at the Sequim Museum & Arts building at 544 N. Sequim Ave., through Jan. 31.
Museum winter hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
Tatom, who moved to the Olympic Peninsula in 1966 before taking a 20-year hiatus about seven years later, returned with her family in 1993, when she sold her business and “retired to become a Master Garden and to play in the world of fibers.”
Says Tatom: “I find it challenging and satisfying and love the ability to create on the loom … All of my work is influenced by my ever-changing gardens and the majestic, snow-capped Olympic Mountains. I hope you enjoy my creations as much as I enjoy making them.”

‘Little Bitta Love’ sing-along set at library
Harmonica Pocket’s Keeth Apgar offers a “Little Bitta Love” — a light-hearted musical sing-a-long storytime — starting at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. The whole family can learn new finger rhymes and songs, sing and laugh out loud.
“Part storytime, part hootenanny, this fun interactive experience features ukuleles, singing books, kazoos, harmonicas and guaranteed smiles all around; no experience necessary,” event organizers said.

McFaul is featured artist at PA gallery
Artist Nancy McFaul is the featured artist for February at Harbor Art Gallery, 114 N. Laurel St., Port Angeles, and will be in the gallery for the Second Saturday Art Walk from 5-7:30 p.m. on Feb. 8. She will also be at the gallery during open hours of 11 a.m.-5 pm on Thursday, Feb. 13.
In her latest series, McFaul uses life drawings done in charcoal and ink and dresses the figures with paper she has painted, cut and glued.
From 1965-1971 she studied design in California. She quit school just short of graduation to go on a road trip, stopping in Seattle for two weeks that ended up being 40 years, she said. During that time, Nancy raised a family and worked in their small specialty bakery at Pike Place Market and painting on the side She then studied gesture drawing and painting with Barbara Fugate at Gage Academy in Seattle.
Since moving to Port Angeles several years ago, McFaul has enjoyed drawing at Studio Bob’s Drink & Draw and participating in Life Drawing sessions.
Book group to consider ‘The Skeptics’ Guide’
The Second Saturday Book Discussion Group meets to talk about “The Skeptics’ Guide to the Universe” by Steven Novella at 3 p.m. on Feb. 8 at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.
