Yacht Club hosts SUP racer

Karl Kruger, the only person to ever complete the 750-mile Race to Alaska (r2ak.com) on a stand-up paddleboard, will speak about his experiences paddling the Arctic waters of the Northwest Passage at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at the general meeting of the Sequim Yacht Club.

The public is welcome to attend at no charge. The presentation will be in the Hendricks Room of the John Wayne Marina building, 2577 W. Sequim Bay Rd.

Kruger, who finished the 2017 R2AK in 14 days and six hours, is an Eastsound mariner who has spent more than 20 years cruising the San Juan and Gulf islands, and the west coasts of Canada and Alaska.

On March 12, Sequim Yacht Club will welcome Rod Sternagel, an Olympia-based rower who has participated in more than 100 open water races, including six of the Seventy48 competitions (seventy48.com) that challenge rowers and paddlers to travel the 70 miles of Puget Sound between Tacoma and Port Townsend.

Garden club hosts talk about mason bees

Sequim Prairie Garden Club will hold its monthly meeting at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, in Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 E. Washington St., Sequim. Carrie Morlang speaks about “Hosting Orchard Mason Bees in the Backyard” at 10:30 a.m.

Morlang is the proprietor of Knox Cellars Orchard Mason Bees and has been hosting orchard mason bees for more than a decade. She is a lifelong avid pesticide free organic flower, fruit and vegetable gardener. She attends yearly Orchard Mason Bee Continuing Education classes to stay up to date on the latest research from entomologists to help provide the best environment for our beloved orchard mason bees. Organizers said the event “will b-e-e fun!”

Shuttle and Spindle Guild hosts speaker

The North Olympic Shuttle and Spindle Guild hosts a meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1 in the Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1033 N. Barr Road, Port Angeles. Guild Member Mikie Morris will present “Cutting Patterns Apart and Reweaving.” There will also be a short member meeting and a show and tell.
