Local writers to share ‘Family Secrets’
Fourth Friday announces an evening of open mic readings set for 6:15 p.m., Friday, Nov. 23, in the media room at The Lodge, 660 Evergreen Farm Way. The community is invited to the free event.
The five-minute readings are designed to showcase diverse writing talent, including poetry, short-short stories and memoir excerpts.
The theme of the evening is “Family Secrets,” so participants are asked to bring a tale to share, true or not, funny or winsome.
Readings are timed, so please rehearse in advance. Arrive early to sign up to read. Published writers are welcome to bring their books to sell before and after the event.

Christmas caroling set for Saturday
A Community Christmas Caroling session led by Craig Buhler returns to downtown Sequim from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24 at Centennial Place on the northeast corner of Sequim Avenue and Washington Street. Singing ability not required. The community is invited to come and enjoy singing or listening to favorite carols during Sequim’s Hometown Holiday festivities.
The event is sponsored by Dungeness Community Church and Sequim Bible Church. Organizers will provide song sheets and a canopy in case of rain while Buhler lead the caroling.
Flugelhornist to perform in Sequim
Enjoy wine and jazz in Sequim with the performance of flugelhornist Dmitri Matheny, who takes the stage from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St. In an evening of “Jazz & Wine” as part of his 100-city national tour, Matheny will showcase both original and familiar material from his recordings, including jazz standards, movie themes and favorite selections from the “Great American Songbook.” Matheny, winner of “Instrumentalist of the Year” honors in the recent Seattle Earshot Jazz Golden Ear Awards, will share the stage with Seattle musicians guitarist Milo Petersen and bassist Phil Sparks. Group considers ‘Anything is Possible’
The Novel Conversations Book Discussion Group meets to discuss “Anything is Possible” by Elizabeth Strout at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.
The book explores a range of human emotion through the intimate dramas of people struggling to understand themselves and others. To participate, simply read the book and attend the discussion; no reservations are needed, and drop-ins are always welcome.

Woodturners to meet
Strait Turners, a local woodturners group, invites the public to attend their Tuesday Nov. 27 meeting set for 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road. Scott Overby presents “Crafting of Pepper Grinders.” Turners of all levels are welcome and those that want to learn about the hobby as well. The Strait Turners do not meet in December.
