River Center film series

The Dungeness River Nature Center invites the community to a special matinee screening of “The Spirit Who Swims,” a feature-length documentary that celebrates the profound relationship between salmon and Indigenous peoples along the Fraser River. The screening will take place on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. in Rainshadow Hall at the center, located at 1943 W. Hendrickson Road.

Through aerial and underwater cinematography, “The Spirit Who Swims” follows the salmons’ journey as they travel over 1,000 kilometers from ocean to spawning grounds. Along the way, viewers meet Indigenous community members whose cultural and spiritual connections to salmon endure amid the challenges of modern economies and environmental change.

Described as both a “love manifesto” and a visual tribute to the salmon, the film explores two contrasting economies that coexist along the waterways: one driven by profit and the other by reciprocity and respect for the natural world.

Tickets are $10 for Dungeness River Nature Center members and $12 for non-members. Space is limited and advance registration is recommended. Register online at: https://dungenessrivercenter.app.neoncrm.com/nx/portal/neonevents/events?path=%2Fportal%2Fevents%2F25930
