Keepers of the Faith visit Sequim Adventist Church
Keepers of the Faith, a Southern Gospel Men’s Quartet, returns to Sequim Adventist Church for a free concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at Sequim Adventist Church, 30 Sanford Lane, Sequim.
Known for their powerful quartet harmonies, solo vocals and testimony, Keepers of the Faith is made up of four male vocalists: Lima Taito, Agaese Taito, Mason Mataele and Kevin Mills. The group, which has been in ministry for over 15 years, started out as a prison ministry team that branched out to visiting hospitals
Sequim photographer takes third in competition
‘Rocky Mountain Afternoon Thunderstorms’ by Melinda Schroeder of Sequim, received third place in the amateur category in Colorado Mountain College’s “The Elevated Life” photo contest. The contest commemorated the college’s 50th anniversary by showcasing the state’s north-central Rockies — home to the college’s 11 locations. Book talk set for ‘The Witches: Salem, 1692’
The Sequim Library (630 N. Sequim Ave.) hosts a discussion of “The Witches: Salem, 1692” by Stacy Schiff, at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14. Schiff, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of “Cleopatra,” unpacks the mystery of the 1692 Salem Witch Trials. Copies of the book are available in various formats including regular print, audiobook on CD, downloadable e-book and audio e-book; they can be requested online by visiting the library catalog at www.nols.org. All are welcome to drop in and participate.
Puppeteer brings German stories, culture to Sequim
In honor of National 4-H week, WSU Clallam County 4-H presents “Hans In Luck” with “Max” Eberhard Eichner from 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, oct. 11, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. Experience the culture, storytelling and puppeteering of Germany where “Max” was born and raised. All ages are welcome. Space is limited. PC hosts tribal art exhibit
The Peninsula College Longhouse Art Gallery presents “Intertribal Canoe Journeys on the Salish Sea” in the “House of Learning,” Peninsula College’s Longhouse (1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles), through December 2017. The collection of photographs have been taken over the years by multiple photographers, capturing many phases and stages of canoe journeys such as the blessing of a canoe, tribal pullers arriving with “paddles up,” singing and drumming, the many volunteers that support canoe journeys. The display was made possible by the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, Tribal Elder Celeste Dybeck and her husband Don and Northwind Art Center’s Art in the Library Program. Longhouse fall quarter hours are Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Old Time Fiddlers set Sequim meeting, performance
The Washington Old Time Fiddlers meet Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St. Set up and open jamming begins at 9:30 a.m. with a business meeting at 11 a.m. A member performance is set for 1:30-3 p.m. This is open and free to the public; donations are welcome.
WOTFA is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting and perpetuating the art of traditional old time fiddling and associated arts and skills.
Spontaneous writing session set
The next session of the Spontaneous Writing group is 9:30-11:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. Hosted by Ruth Marcus, the meeting is free and designed for writers who want to get their creative juices flowing. Bring paper and pen; no electronic devices, please. Prompts are provided. Participants write for 10 minutes, then read what they write. All writers are welcome, regardless of experience.

Railroaders show set for Oct. 21
The North Olympic Railroaders’ 18th-annual Train Show & Swap Meet is set for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road.
The event features railroad items and memorabilia. Model trains will be for sale and there will be door prizes.

Big band hits PA stage
The Juan de Fuca Foundation hosts the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Port Angeles High School Performing Arts Center, 304 E. Park Ave. The orchestra was the most popular group in the country during the Big Band era of the 1940s and continues ti play throughout the country. Documentary details harrowing account
Check out “Shalom Italia” at the next Documentary Nights! program, set for 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Sequim Library (630 N. Sequim Ave.). The film details the story of three Italian Jewish brothers who spent months during their childhood in the 1940s hiding in a cave in the Tuscan countryside to avoid Nazis. The 2016 documentary is not rated and is 60 minutes long, with subtitles in English. This free event is a collaboration with “POV,” a PBS award-winning nonfiction film series. Fourth Friday readings set
The next session of Fourth Friday Readings is at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, in the media room at the The Lodge, 660 Evergreen Farm Way. Sponsored by Writers on the Spit, the meeting features Sarah Sheppard. The session includes a 5-minute open mic reading. Bring poems, short-short stories or memoir/novel snippets. Sign up in advance.
