OPAS sets October program

The Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society presents the group’s October program via ZOOM at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20. Bob Boekelheide will share recent bird sightings, and meeting organizers will offer information about the Christmas Bird Counts for Sequim Dungeness and Port Angeles.

Attendees can learn about the status of construction of the Dungeness River Nature Center with photos by John Acklen, get bird project updates (Pigeon Guillemots, Washington Bluebirds, Purple Martins) and learn about upcoming field trip plans.

Camera club sets free virtual presentation

The Olympic Peaks Camera Club is sponsoring a free presentation by noted wildlife photographer Steve Gettle at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, via Zoom. All interested photographers are invited, but must pre-register at tinyurl.com/OPCCGettle. Gettle, who will talk about “Building an Image” at the presentation, has more 30 years of nature photography experience and has been recognized through numerous awards. These include being a multi-award winner of the BBC’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year and recognized in Nature’s Best photography contest.

Writer’s group to meet Oct. 21

The Olympic Peninsula Christian Writer’s Group meets the third Thursday of the month. October’s zoom meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21.

Woodturners to meet Oct. 26

The Strait Turners Woodturning Club meets at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 26, on Zoom. The group’s presenter this month is Mike Nathal from Ohio. He will be demonstrating five ways to turn a sphere, a skill helpful in tool control.

The club normally meets the last Tuesday of the month at the Gardiner Community Center; club members say they do not have a date yet for when they will resume in-person meetings.
