NOLS sets virtual author talk for Nov. 5

The North Olympic Library System invites the community to join author Anders Morley for a live virtual discussion of “This Land of Snow: A Journey Across the North in Winter,” starting at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, on Zoom.

Registration is required to receive the Zoom login information for this event; register at nols.org or by contacting a NOLS branch.

For as long as he could remember, Morley said, he dreamed of taking a very long walk. In his 30s, he decided to unite his old dream with his equally long-standing love of winter. Fourteen months later, just as the snow was starting to fall, he set off alone to spend the four coldest months of the year traveling on skis across the half-wild country of northwestern Canada.

Auditions set for ‘Hound of the Baskervilles’

Comedic playwright Ken Ludwig has adapted Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic “The Hound of the Baskervilles” into a “murderously funny adventure” set to stage in Port Angeles in early 2022.

Auditions and technician interviews for “Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery,” are set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, and 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Port Angeles Community Players theater, 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Director Marissa Meek seeks to cast parts for four males and one female, yet since there are more than 30 characters in the play, more may be cast. Auditioners may be asked to participate in ensemble work. Those interested are asked to bring documented proof of vaccination to the audition. Additionally, Meek will be interviewing for technical support.

“Baskervilles” is scheduled for three weekends, Feb. 25-March 13.
