Berkey to play at Trinity United

Composer and pianist Jackson Berkey and his wife, lyricist Almeda Berkey, perform during the 10 a.m. service Sunday, Sept. 24, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave. Jackson, known for his 41 years with the Mannheim Steamroller group, has produced 400 classical compositions and recordings.

He will play his Nocturne #22 in G Minor and Nocturne #11 in B Major, plus his homage to Thomas Campion with local flutist Carlos Xavier. Almeda, a conductor and lyric soprano, conducts the church’s Trinity Singers in her husband’s arrangement of “Amazing Grace” and singing “The Lord’s Prayer.”

VFW hosts dinner and music

Sequim VFW Post 4760 hosts a dinner-and-music evening from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, with entertainment by Just In Time. Cost is $10 Call 360-683-9546.

Story Slam set at OTA

Ten tellers from the audience will be chosen at random to come to the mic to share a five-minute true, personal story on the theme “Seriously” at Story Slam, an event set for 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, at Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N Sequim Ave. Stories must be told without notes; no reading. Interested tellers drop their names in the hat before the show.

Book talk set at Sequim Library

Fredrik Backman’s “A Man Called Ove” is the book up for discussion at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at the Sequim Library System, 630 N. Sequim Ave. All are welcome to join the talk. Learn how to make pine needle baskets

Larry Bennett hosts a pine needle basket workshop and classes from 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 21-22 at the Landing Mall (lower level), 115 E. Railroad Ave., Port Angeles. Bennett, who works for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife in Port Angeles, has been making baskets for 36 years.

His baskets have been displayed at the state capitol museum in Olympia and have won awards in several art shows. He now sells his baskets at the Landing Artist Studio.

‘One Woman’s Fight’ set at Native Film Night series

The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Library screens “100 Years: One Woman’s Fight for Justice” on Wednesday, Sept. 27, as part of the Native Film Night series.

Set for 6-8 p.m. at the Red Cedar Hall Community Center at the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Campus, 1033 Old Blyn Hwy., the film is the story of Elouise Cobell’s 30-year fight for justice for 300,000 Native Americans whose mineral rich lands were mismanaged by the United States government. Special guest Dr. Tara Martin Lopez, a sociology professor at Peninsula College, will introduce the film and lead a discussion following the film.
