City named Karaoke Idol competition winners, Olympic Music Festival sets weekend, gem and mineral club to host open house, more

Judges pick Sequim karaoke winners

Three winners were selected at the City of Sequim’s third-annual Karaoke Idol competition, part of the 2014 “Music in the Park” program, on Aug. 5. Winners include: Natalie Wilson, third place; Ron Gwaldis, second place; and Brian Klein, who took first place overall for his versions of “You Sang to Me” and “Unchained Melody.”

Overall, 14 contestants sang for the title. Hosts for the evening were Pepper Fisher and Sue Hagener, and judges were administrative services director Elray Konkel, Mayor Candace Pratt and councilor Ken Hays. Sponsors of the 2014 “Music in the Park” program series included Kitsap Bank (presenting sponsor), Avamere Olympic Rehab, BrokersGroup, Jarmuth Electric, Christopher Shea and Gray & Osborne, Les Schwab Tire, Sophie’s Florist, US Bank and an anonymous donor.

Olympic Music Festival sets eighth weekend

The Olympic Music Festival presents the eighth weekend of its 31st season with violinist Cindy Wu, violist Alan Iglitzin and cellist Jennifer Culp from Aug. 16-17. Three Beethoven string trios will be performed: String Trio in C minor, Op. 9 No. 2, String Trio in G major Op. 9 No. 1 and String Trio in E-flat major Op. 3. The Olympic Music Festival is 18 miles south of Port Townsend. Concerts take place every Saturday and Sunday afternoon throughout the season, beginning at 2 p.m. Festival grounds open at 11 a.m. and barn doors open at 1 p.m. Pets are not allowed.

Gems galore at open house

The Clallam County Gem and Mineral Association will have its fall open house from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the club’s shop facilities, 81 Hooker Road, Unit 5, Sequim.

If you have rocks you would like to identify; if you would like to see and know how to cut rocks; if you would like to see and know how to polish stones for use in jewelry or for display, come to the open house.

Quartet to perform

Keepers of the Faith Quartet will be performing at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 30 Sanford Lane, Sequim.

The group’s goal is to bring people closer to Jesus through gospel music that inspires and entertains. This group travels extensively in the Northwest and has performed in churches for a variety of denominations, at music festivals and for prison ministry.
