Christmas Chorus seeks singers

The Sequim Community Christmas Chorus is preparing to launch its 30th season of presenting sacred Christmas music for the community and seeks more singers. Rehearsals will begin at 6:30 p.m. (6 p.m. registration) Tuesday Sept. 16 at the Sequim Seventh-day Adventist Church, 30 Sanford Lane. Performances will take place on Dec. 5

The chorus is open to singers of all levels of experience and participation requires no fees or auditions. Pick up a registration form at Bauer Interior Designs, 119 N. Accordion fest set

The Sequim Accordion Social will be held at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., Sequim, from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14. A $2 admission is requested at the door to pay for the room. Featured players are Elsy and Hermann Laresser of Sequim. All accordion players (bring your accordion) and accordion lovers are invited to attend.

Last weekend set for Olympic Music Festival

The Olympic Music Festival in Quilcene presents the 11th and last weekend of its 31st season, Sept. 6-7, with violinist Ray Chen and pianist Julio Elizalde. The artists will perform Rondo in B minor for by Franz Schubert; Divertimento from The Fairy’s Kiss (1934) by Igor Stravinsky; selections from Manuel de Falla’s Suite Populaire Espagnole; Claire de lune from Suite Bergamasque by Claude Debussy; and Tzigane for Violin and Piano by Maurice Ravel.

Yakima exhibits shows peninsula artists

“Currents,” an exhibit curated by Yvonne Pepin-Wakefield — former Port Townsend resident and art teacher at Sequim schools — opens Sept. 11 in the Yakima Light Gallery in Yakima. The exhibit features exclusively Port Townsend artists Diane Ainsworth, Kathy Constantine, Rachel Ganopler, Susan Ogilvie and Carol Stabile.

“Currents” runs through Oct. 18.

Author to read ‘Ramblings’

Homegrown author Michele Roldan-Shaw will read and tell stories from “Rambler’s Life,” her collection of true adventure tales about traveling around the South, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at the LARC Gallery, 425 E. Washington St.

Do-si-do into classes

The Strait Wheelers of Port Angeles and the Sequim/Gardiner-based Rhody O’s will be offering square dance classes starting the second week in September. The Strait Wheelers will meet from 7-9 p.m. Mondays starting Sept. 8 at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., Port Angeles. Strait Wheeler classes will be free through September. The Rhody O’s will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road, Gardiner starting Tuesday, Sept. 9, and they will host a free ice cream social.

MAC offers puppet time

The Museum & Arts Center in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley presents “Native Tales Children’s Puppet and Craft Time” at noon, Monday, Sept. 8, at its exhibit building, 175 W. Cedar St., Sequim. There will be a fun-filled puppet story time and craft activity for children in pre-school to fourth grade. Native Tales includes legends as told by Raven and Coyote. A craft will follow.
