All about roots, soils and septic systems

Clallam County Environmental Health Specialist Janine Reed will share recommendations for protecting and maintaining septic systems through proper landscaping at noon Thursday, July 27, in the county commissioners meeting room at the Clallam County Courthouse in Port Angeles.

She will explain how soils help to treat sewage. She also will present information on gardening and planting around septic systems to prevent septic failures due to tree roots infiltrating the pipes or over-watering a drain field.

Reed has worked for Clallam County in the Onsite Septic System program since 1999. She teaches Septic 101 classes to help homeowners maintain and manage their septic systems so that a premature failure can be avoided.

This free presentation is part of the Green Thumb Garden Tip education series sponsored by the Clallam County Master Gardeners. For questions, call 565-2679.
