All invited to local Memorial Day ceremonies

Jack Grennan Post 62 of the American Legion will hold Memorial Day Ceremonies on Monday, May 28, as follows: Sequim View Cemetery at 11 a.m., Jamestown at 11:30 a.m., Dungeness at noon and Blue Mountain at 12:45 p.m.

All are welcome to attend and show respect for the veterans who have passed on. Post members will place flags on graves identified as veterans on Saturday morning and they will remain until Monday afternoon.

DAR slates last meeting for ’17-18

Michael Trebert Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will hold their last meeting of the 2017-2018 year on Wednesday, May 16, at 10:30 a.m., at the Veterans Center, 216 S. Francis St., Port Angeles. There will be election of officers followed by a potluck lunch.

MOAA sets venue

The Olympic Peninsula Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America is changing their meeting venue. The Saturday, May 12, luncheon meeting will be held at the Sunland Golf Clubhouse at 12:30 p.m. There will be a buffet lunch followed by a presentation by Gold Star Mother Betsy Schultz in honor of Mother’s Day. A Gold Star Mother is one who has lost a child in combat. Betsy has spent the last several years turning her Bed & Breakfast into Captain Joseph House in memory of her son. When completed it will provide a respite for Gold Star Families for a week.

Junior ROTC awards set in PA

The Port Angeles High School NJROTC Awards Ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, May 25, in the PA High School gym.

I will be there to present the Military Officers Association of America Leadership Medal and a $1,000 donation and the Gilchrist Medal for Community Service and a $100 donation to the local charity of the winner’s choice.

Many other service organizations will be there to present medals and scholarships.

Please come out to honor these young people who have worked hard all school year and won many team events competing against other units throughout the state.

Get help from service officers

Veteran Service Officers are available to help with VA questions and paperwork on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the American Legion Post in Sequim by appointment only. Call 360-461-7974 or 360-461-7460 for an appointment.

They are at the Veterans Center in Port Angeles at 216 S. Francis St. on Wednesdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on a walk-in basis — first come, first served.

Attend a Fleet Reserve Meeting
