Amazon tablet top prize for writing contest

In an effort to offer children a fun challenge this summer, the Clallam County Literacy Council — through United Way — is launching a writing contest for Clallam County youths of ages 6-18.

Contestants can enter by submitting an answer to one of three prompts: “If I could read better, I would read … “; “Because I can read, I will be able to … ”; or, “The best thing I have ever read was … “

Darrell Jenkins, a member of the literacy council, said, “Entries will be judged on the child’s ability to express what is in their heart; they won’t be judged on spelling, handwriting, or sentence structure.”

The top prize is an Amazon Fire tablet.

Entry forms can be found on United Way website www.unitedwayclallam.org/writingcontest, and emailed to info@unitedwayclallam.org. Or, enter by mail. Include age, contact information and answer one of the questions and mail it to: United Way of Clallam County, P.O. Box 937, Port Angeles WA 98362.

The contest runs through July 31 and winners will be announced on Aug. 15.
