Sixty antique cars will tour the Sequim area on Friday, July 12, as part of a four-day event sponsored by the Sea-Tac Horseless Carriage Club of America.

It is the 60th anniversary of Red Carpet Tours sponsored by the club. The event is headquartered at the Red Lion Inn in Port Angeles.

“Every year we tour to a different area,” said Tony Zimmerman, president of the Sea-Tac group.

“This is our first time in Sequim. We’re looking forward to seeing the beautiful views of the strait, the lavender fields and traveling some of the secondary roads.”

Among the antique cars on the tour are a 1940 Cadillac sedan owned by Dave and Rosemary Proctor of Campbell River, British Columbia; a 1929 Durant owned by Phil and Jane Peters, Portland, Ore.; a 1937 MG roadster owned by Richard Bombard, Auburn; and a 1936 Auburn owned by David and Elaine Ellis, Arlington.

One of the oldest cars on the tour is a 1909 Zimmerman Model H runabout; the newest is a 2001 Z06 Corvette.

The Sequim-area tour includes stops at John Wayne Marina, the Dungeness Schoolhouse, Oliver’s Lavender Farm and the George Washington Inn. Lunch is served at the Sequim Prairie Grange.

Local musicians Kate Powers, Ethan Powers and Chris Burt will entertain the group at the schoolhouse, performing on fiddle, banjo and guitar; The Old Sidekicks, another local group, will play bluegrass music at the grange during lunch.

On Saturday, July 13, the second day of touring, the cars head east from Port Angeles to Clallam Bay where they will be part of the Clallam Bay/Sekiu Fun Days Grand Parade followed by lunch at a local school.

The first Red Carpet Tour in 1953 was in Centralia. Over the past 60 years, participants from all over the Pacific Northwest have toured to many areas, including Victoria, Cle Elum, Ellensburg, Mount Vernon, Marysville, Olympia, Port Townsend, Poulsbo, Oak Harbor and Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia.
