Royalty pageant scheduled

The 2010 Irrigation Festival Royalty Pageant will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at the Sequim High School auditorium, 601 N. Sequim Ave.

Festival royalty are high school students who volunteer their time to work with the festival committee and promote community involvement.

They accompany the float as it travels throughout the state, including Sequim’s Irrigation Festival parade.

The pageant is a scholarship event.

Readers theater invites participation

Readers Theatre Plus holds its second annual Open Reading Night at 7 p.m. Friday, March 12, at The Old Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2781 Towne Road, Sequim.

Actors, playwrights, directors and those interested in participating in Readers Theatre Plus events are invited.

A scene representative of the play, no more than 10 minutes, and enough copies for all actors plus one for the director, can be submitted to Readers Theatre Plus, 1291 E. Thornton Drive, Sequim, WA 98382 no later than March 5.

People interested in directing for Readers Theatre Plus will cast actors, narrators and interested parties in the scenes. Scenes will be rehearsed briefly, then presented.

Another class on mason bees

The success of the mason bee class in January has led to another class, scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, at Wild Birds Unlimited, 275953 Highway 101, Blyn.

Seabirds program scheduled

Dr. Peter Hodum presents "Bridging the Hemispheres: Challenges and Opportunities for Conserving Highly Migratory Seabirds."

The talk is at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Feiro Marine Life Center on the Port Angeles City Pier, 350 N. Lincoln St., Port Angeles.

Hodum is director of Juan Fernandez Islands Conservancy and a visiting assistant professor at the University of Puget Sound.
