Auditions set for OTA season-opening Main Stage comedy

Auditions for “The Explorer’s Club,” Olympic Theatre Arts’ first Main Stage show of the 2017-2018 live theater season, are set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, and 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at Olympic Theatre Arts Center, 414 N. Sequim Ave.

Director Olivia Shea is looking to fill a cast of eight men and one woman for this fast-paced Victorian spoof set in the late 1800s.

The plot centers on an all-male Explorer’s Club, in which the president has proposed a woman for membership.

“Not only is this proposal outrageous, but it could shake the very foundation of the British Empire. Good Grief!” Shea said. “It also doesn’t help that the club’s bartender is missing and no one can get a decent drink. Perhaps our heroine can come to the rescue?”

Shea is welcoming all ages to audition. Using British accents is strongly recommended. She also suggests that the candidates wear comfortable clothing, in preparation for some activities during the auditioning process.

Copies of the script are available from the OTA business office, from 1-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

“The Explorer’s Club” will open Oct. 20 and run weekends through Nov. 5.

Rehearsals will begin in September and there will be some table readings during the last week in August.
