Backyard Birding slated for Feb. 1

The Saturday, Feb. 1, session of Backyard Birding meets at the Dungeness River Audubon Center’s Railroad Bridge Park, is from 10 a.m.-noon.

Members learn about the care and maintenance of nests and nesting boxes. The class also will show how to participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count, a national annual census of bird populations sponsored by both the Audubon Society and the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology.

Following a short field trip to tally birds in Railroad Bridge Park, learn how to enter data in the Great Backyard Bird Count computer database.

This is the fourth presentation of a series of eight classes offered by the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society.

Families and individuals are invited to attend any or all of the sessions. There is a $5 fee for those over 18, payable for each session. After five sessions are attended, a free membership to the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society will be offered to participants.

Remaining classes are: March 1, “Bird Migration”; April 12, “Spring Gardening for Birds”; May 3, “Enjoying Spring Sounds” and June 7, “Out of the Nest.”
