Usher in the first week of school with a wave of blue at the First Friday Art Walk this September.The self-guided tour encourages attendees to wear blue as the month’s theme. For one night a month, downtown Sequim comes to life with artist receptions, soothing sounds of local musicians and delicious foods. Everyone is welcome to print a map of events at www.sequimartwalk.com. October’s theme (Oct. 5) is orange.
Here are the events taking place Friday, Sept. 7.
• The Grand Olympics Chorus strolls the streets of the art walk with its a cappella/barbershop style.
• Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave., opens “Red” at 7:30 p.m.
• Pondicherri, 119 E. Washington St., hosts vocalist Judy Clark singing big band to gospel to jazz.
• Pacific Mist Books, 121 W. Washington St., welcomes Joanna Hays (JoJo Beads) and her fused glass and beaded jewelry; author Dawn Novotny of “Ragdoll Redeemed: Growing up in the Shadow of Marilyn Monroe"; Howly Slim plays 6-7 p.m.; and food is provided by Cameron’s Café, Creative Catering and Cocoa d’Amici.
• Wind Rose Cellars, 155-B W. Cedar St., posts artwork by Randy and Sallie Radock with music by Bill Volmut and wine samples available.
• The Downtown Sequim Visitor Information Center, 163 W. Washington St., hosts Sequim Arts’ “5×7” show featuring anonymous local and visiting artists at the “Summer Showcase” venue.
• Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St., showcases Carol Janda, a highly regarded artist and teacher, and Phil Tauran, a veteran photo artist from France.
• Alder Wood Bistro, 139 W. Alder St., hosts Karin Anderson.
• Full Moon Candle Co., 161 W. Washington St., features Dee Green’s acrylics, Diana Miller’s oils, Don Porter’s bowls, Randy Radock’s prints, Grace Shepard’s matted artwork and Randall Tomaras’ prints.
• The Dove’s Nest, 139 W. Washington St., hosts photographer Ken Beale’s views of the Olympic Peninsula and Dr. Thomas Clark’s gnome houses.
• That Takes the Cake, 171 W. Washington St., inspires sweetness with its own artistic cakes.
• Prairie Springs Assisted Living, 680 W. Prairie St., welcomes watercolorists Pat Gordon and Richard O’Connor.
• Gallery on the Walls, 128 E. Washington St., showcases Sally Cays and Patricia Taynton inside the Sequim Vision Center.
• The Sunshine Café, 145 W. Washington St., will feature artist Aaron Kuntze and delicious dessert samples.
• Rainshadow Roasting Company, 157 W. Cedar St., features John Bass’ nature photography, live music by Fret Noir, and its freshly brewed coffee.
• KeyBank, 120 N. Dunlap Ave., hosts photographer Linda Parcell.
• The Museum & Arts Center, 175 W. Cedar St., starts its “Glass Art Reflected” show by 19 glass artists.
• Doodlebugs Scrapbooking, 138 W. Washington St., has its Creative Café Art Bar open 4:30-6:30 p.m.
• Other open businesses and venues include Crumb Grabbers Bakery, 492 W. Cedar St.; Heather Creek, 122 W. Washington St.; and Solar City’s Tesa Boutique & Tanning Retreat, 135 W. Washington St.
