‘Books for Belize’ drive ends April 30 at local elementary schools

Donors have through the end of April to support the Books for Belize Book Drive through local elementary schools.

Organizer, Renee Mullikin, a retired Sequim teacher, estimates they will send between 50-70 boxes of books from local donations.

“We have been blessed with generous donations from individuals and groups in the community,” she said.

While serving as a literacy coach in the Central America country, Mullikin said that schools in the area she visited taught English as their first language, but books in English are not readily available.

Local schools host drop boxes for the community through April 30 for any new or gently used books at Five Acre School, Greywolf Elementary, Helen Haller Elementary, Olympic Peninsula Academy, and Peninsula Adventist Elementary School in Sequim; and Queen of Angels in Port Angeles.

To sponsor a book box shipment, Mullikin said it’ll cost $25-30.
