Celebrate nature advocates at Wild Birds’ Earth Day event

Celebrate with local bird advocates and a number of community groups at an event-packed Earth Day Celebration set for 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at Wild Birds Unlimited, 275953 U.S. Highway 101, in Gardiner.

The event, organizers say, is to learn from local organizations looking to “preserve, protect, promote and rehabilitate our local native wildlife, habitats and resources.”

Cindy and Connor Daily of Discovery Bay Wild Bird Rescue will be on hand from noon-2 p.m. with their rehabilitated birds of prey. Get an up-close look at some of these feathered friends, create your own falcon mask and find out what their center is all about.

The rescue center will “debut” their newest avian ambassador Zeuffi, a white morph Gyrfalcon.

Other local nonprofits with representatives/resources at the celebration include the Dungeness River Nature Center, Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society, Peninsula Friends of Animals, Jefferson Co Trash Taskforce and Port Townsend StyroCyclers. The Southern Nibbles food truck will be on site as well, offering South Carolina Lowcountry style food.
