The Sequim City Band presents a concert in the beautiful outdoors at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17, at the James Center For the Performing Arts.Under the direction of Tyler Benedict, the band presents a variety of concert band repertoire.

Sousa marches are a standard, with “El Capitan” and the “Mikado March.” Another band favorite is “March of the Belgian Parachutists” and the trombone section will be featured in “Miss Trombone, A Slippery Rag” by Henry Fillmore.

For oldies fans, the band will perform “Themes Like Old Times” that includes such classics as “My Melancholy Baby” and “Ain’t We Got Fun.” “Glenn Miller in Concert” will swing with “In the Mood.” In contrast is James Curnow’s “Where Never Lark or Eagle Flew,” a rich, polyphonic masterpiece. Film composer John Williams’ theme to “The Patriot” will be performed, as well as “Selections From Mary Poppins” by Richard and Robert Sherman.

Clallam County Sheriff Bill Benedict is the guest announcer for this concert.

As always, the Sequim City Band concerts are free of charge. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, sunscreen, hat and blankets or umbrellas, weather depending.
