City plans expanded drone show for 2023 Sequim Sunshine Festival

The Sequim Sunshine Festival, set for March 3-4, will once again feature an illuminated drone show, city officials announced last week.

Produced by Firefly Drone Shows and sponsored by Sound Community Bank, the show will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, and will feature 200 drones, twice the number of drones as previous displays in Sequim.

The drone show will launch from south of Carrie Blake Community Park and will fly about 400 feet in the air, city officials said. The show is best viewed from a distance and will be visible from the park.

“The team at Firefly couldn’t be more excited to be back for 2023,” said Ryan Sigmon, co-founder of Firefly Drone Shows, in a press release.

“We always enjoy our visits to Sequim and our time spent with the community. We appreciate all the support from the City of Sequim and Sound Community Bank this year, and in years past.

“It is our pleasure to bring out 200 choreographed drones for the Sunshine Festival and we look forward to sharing this experience with the city.”

KSQM FM 91.5 Radio will live broadcast music for the drone show. Those not within hearing distance of the speaker can tune to the radio station from a cell phone or vehicle.

The Sequim Sunshine Festival began in 2020, city officials said, to “help shake off the winter blues and celebrate the coming of the spring and summer seasons.”
