Clallam Conservation District offers free farming webinars

Clallam Conservation District is offering two free webinars in December to share tips for local farms.

From 7-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, district planners will present “Wintertime Management of Poultry,” a webinar that explores a variety of topics helpful for raising poultry and waterfowl during the wet, winter months. Topics include footing and bedding options to minimize mud, tips for lighting and heating, and suggestions for handling poultry manure and waste during the winter. The webinar will include time for questions and answers.

The next webinar in this series is scheduled for 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, when district planners will present “Putting Native Plants to Use on Your Farm.” The webinar explores ways to use native plants to add beauty, function and wildlife value to farm and property. The webinar includes a brief description of common, native trees and shrubs and advice for planting areas like streams, wetlands and ponds. Topics also include an overview on how to use native trees and shrubs to create visual screens, windbreaks and hedgerows, and tips for protecting new plantings from wildlife and livestock damage.
