Clallam County Fair picks 2022 royalty

A Port Angeles teen and Sequim teen will represent the Clallam County Fair in 2022.

Representatives of the Clallam County Fair Royalty for 2022 recently appointed 16-year-old Allison Pettit, a sophomore at Port Angeles High School, as queen.

Pettit has participated at the Clallam County fair and she is currently a 4-H member in Silver Spurs 4-H Club with her project being poultry. She enjoys fishing, writing short stories and poems, and riding her quad with family and friends.

Pettit, whose parents are Pete and Michele Pettit and whose sponsor is Hermann Brothers Logging and Construction Inc., is a member of Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) and the Air Rifle Team, and is in the PAHS orchestra.

Her school plans are to enroll at Peninsula College in the Running Start program. After receiving her associate of arts degree, she plans to enroll at Washington State University and then become a livestock and large animal veterinarian.

Her platform is Healthy Families of Clallam County.

New to the fair royalty this year is Queen’s Court, and will be represented by 14-year-old Sophia Lawson, an eighth-grader at Sequim Middle School.

Lawson has lived in Clallam County all her life and she has been involved in the Clallam County Fair 4-H program; she was 4-H Junior Royalty for a year.

Lawson said she enjoys playing on the varsity volleyball team at Sequim Middle School. Her hobbies are drawing, tennis, fishing and camping.

Her future educational plans after high school are to earn a degree that will allow her to work with animals.

Lawson’s parents are Marc and Elizabeth Lawson, and her sponsors are Chicken and Egg Farm Fresh Eggs, and Loop N Stitch.

A January coronation for Pettit and Lawson as Clallam County Fair Royalty is being planned; however, dates and public information about the event — one that will adhere to the COVID-19 mandates, fair representatives note — have yet to be announced.

The 2022 fair theme is “Blue Ribbon Dreams in Boots and Jeans.”
