Boasting a larger variety of native plants and succulents than in previous years, the Master Gardeners of Clallam County’s annual Plant Sale is set for 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at the Master Gardener Demonstration Gardens, 2711 Woodcock Road.

All proceeds from the sale will be used to further education and demonstration garden programs in Clallam County.

Master Gardeners will be on site to help attendees in selections and answering gardening questions.

Best selections are generally from 9 a.m.-noon, while all remaining items will be marked down half price from 12:30-2 p.m.

The sale includes 18-20 different varieties of native plants ranging from red flowering currants, blue elderberry, pacific crabapples and snowberries. There also will be ornamentals, grasses, ground covers, perennial flowers, vegetable and herb starts.

New to this year’s event is a “Gardening Store” where items are sold in the gardeners’ outdoor pavilion; attendees can find interesting reusable garden items and books, plus baskets, garden art and gardening supplies. The sale also features mason bee houses and gift cards made with photos from the club’s demonstration gardens.

Plant sale coordinator Kathy Fritz said several Master Gardeners have been donating their time, money and expertise in dividing and cultivating plants from their own gardens for the sale.

Mike Barnes has donated the use of his greenhouse to “kick start” a number of the sale’s plants because of a late spring. These plants are then put outside to be acclimated for the local climate.

Each plant for sale has been labeled with its name, description and cultivation requirements. Master Gardeners also have started from seed, vegetables and herbs.

Fritz said the sale has been an event for years that the Master Gardeners look forward to each year.
