A number of community donations, including another large offering from a local nonprofit and an unexpected six-figure gift from a community member will help Clallam County Fire District 3 replace cardiac monitors/defibrillators when they become obsolete and are no longer repairable.
The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild has been a financial supporter of the fire district’s emergency medical program, donating hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past 40 years.
“Their generous donations, raised through sales at the Hospital Guild Thrift Store in Sequim, have helped purchase medic rigs, cardiac monitors, CPR training mannequins, ventilators, development of the helipad and even paramedic school for two of the career responders,” district officials said.
Even after the trials of trying to operate the volunteer run thrift shop through the pandemic, the guild donated $38,000 towards the replacement of the most outdated cardiac monitors/defibrillators, district officials said.
In April, the district received an unexpected donation of $100,000 from the estate of Lt. Col. James Minsky. Having no family to leave his estate to, he opted to make donations to organizations that were important to him, many of them veterans associations.
“Clallam Fire District 3 was honored to be included in his bequests,” district representatives said. “The district will use all of these funds towards the purchase of more cardiac monitor/defibrillators and AEDs.”
