Sequim Community Orchestra, the orchestra for new and experienced players, presents the final concert of its second season at 7 p.m. Friday, July 12, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave.

The free concert presents a variety of familiar classical music — with a twist.

“Most of the time when one hears a performance of a multi-movement work, like a symphony or a concerto, and the choice is made to perform only one movement, it’s the first movement that we hear,” music director Phil Morgan-Ellis said.

“Everyone knows the beginning of Beethoven’s Fifth symphony; how many know any of the other movements?”

The orchestra will perform the three last movements at the concert, as well as “The March to the Scaffold” from “Symphonie Fantastique” by Hector Berlioz; the final movement of Mozart’s “Symphony No. 25”; and the last movement of Dvorak’s popular “Eighth Symphony.”

Morgan-Ellis said these are “all great endings to large works of master composers.”

Also featured in the concert is the “Fantasia on ‘Greensleeves’” by Ralph Vaughan Williams. The familiar work by the English composer spotlights two solo flutists, Martha Baker and Kristen Larson, and solo harpist Janeen Kelm.

The audience is encouraged to meet the orchestra after the show.
