Conservation district to host pollinator webinar

Clallam Conservation District is offering a webinar on improving habitat for bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinators from 2-3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5.

Register at www.clallam cd.org/events to secure a spot; those unable to attend the live event can request a recording by email available on the registration page.

Eric Lee-Mader of Northwest Meadowscapes, a native seed farm located on Whidbey Island specializing in pollinator-friendly native flowers and grasses, will give a presentation on ways to improve pollinator habitat.

Lee-Mader will walk through a step-by-step process to teach participants how to properly plan, install and maintain wildflower meadows and native hedgerows, as well as improve existing pollinator habitat.

Conservation District staff will also talk about their annual Native Plant Sale, which offers many of the species discussed during the pollinator workshop. They are currently taking orders for bare-root native trees, shrubs and pollinator seed through Jan. 28.

Descriptions of the plants offered for sale, ordering information and online ordering is available at www.clallamcd.org/native-plants.

In addition to managing Northwest Meadowscapes, Lee-Mader is the pollinator program co-director for the Xerces Society, which focuses on protecting invertebrates and their habitats.
