Youth art workshops planned

The popular “Kids Create Art” series at the Sequim Library wraps up another season this spring with two final sessions. These introductory art workshops for ages 7-12 are from 10:30 a.m.-noon April 15 and May 20. All workshops in the series are free, but with class sizes limited, pre-registration is required. To register, visit the Sequim Library events calendar at www.nols.org, call 683-1161 or send an email to youth@nols.org. All materials will be provided. In the first class, participants will make a collagraph; in the second, a clay owl.

Elwha featured in documentary

Studium Generale welcomes Dr. Jennifer Galvin and Emma Jones on Thursday, April 6, to introduce “The Memory of Fish,” a documentary portrait of Dick Goin — a local fisherman, retired mill-worker and activist — in his fight to free the Elwha River from two dams. The film will be screened at 7 p.m. Friday, April 7, in both the Little Theater and Maier Performance Hall, both on the Peninsula College campus (1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles). Book discussion set

“The Painter” by Peter Heller will be discussed at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. Copies of “The Painter” are available in various formats including regular print, large print, audiobook on CD, audio e-book and downloadable e-book. They can be requested online by visiting the library catalog at www.nols.org. All are welcome to drop in and participate.

Fiddlers move to Shipley

On Saturday, April 8, the Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association will be meeting and performing at its new location at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., Sequim.

Open jamming starts at 9:30 a.m. There will be a fiddle workshop covering basic techniques and a new tune from 9:30-11. A business meeting is at 11 a.m, then open jamming continues until 1:30 p.m. On stage performances by WOTFA members are from 1:30-3 p.m. The first 30 minutes is old-time fiddle tunes, followed by fiddle, bluegrass and country music.
