Entertainment: Auditions set for ‘Much Ado’

The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd., is holding auditions for its 2017 Shakespeare in the Woods production of “Much Ado About Nothing.” Auditions will be held in the form of workshops and will focus on the skills used to perform Shakespeare outdoors, specifically: body alignment, vocal work, coordinated group movement, interpretation of text and character development.

Participants who wish to learn these skills, but don’t desire to audition also are welcome to attend.

The auditions are at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the center; and at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Campfire Clubhouse, 619 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Bring comfortable clothes and drinking water. Monologues are welcome but not required.

“Much Ado About Nothing,” by William Shakespeare, is a play about love, war and dirty tricks. Set against the backdrop of 1950s America, the play begins with a ball in celebration of the war’s end and the announcement of an engagement. Intrigue, double cross and treachery ensue. The bonds of love and friendship are tested. Witticisms are traded. Love is lost and regained, all leading to a thunderous, and at times hilarious, happy ending.
