Exhibit to welcome spring at Blue Whole Gallery

Local artists Marilyn Hiestand and John Bertholl help the Blue Whole Gallery prep for a change in the season with “Here Comes Spring!,” the new exhibit coming in March.

Meet the artists at a reception set for 5-8 p.m. on Friday, March 1, at the gallery, 129 W. Washington St., during the First Friday Art Walk Sequim event.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays, and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sundays.

Hiestand’s mediums range from watercolors to silk painting. Her display in March contains all of these, rendered in watercolor, collage and silk painting.

Once a resident of Hawaii, she now enjoys having four seasons in her year.

“With the hope of spring, I start thinking about flowers, greenery and blue sky,” she said.

Bertholl spent more than 60 years in Alaska. When he moved to Sequim 10 years ago, he got “hooked” on working with driftwood.

“I have experimented with resin and dyes,” he said. “Combining the two processes, reveals the grain and form of the wood, producing a new and exciting art form.”
