Candlelight service slated at TUMC

“Festival of Lessons and Carols” is the theme of a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave.

Scripture and songs will tell the story from creation to the birth of Jesus. The Trinity Singers, instrumentalists and harpist Megan Cylwik will perform.

The service will close with the lighting of individual candles during the singing of “Silent Night.”

Church trio to offer Blue Christmas

Three local churches — St. Luke’s Episcopal, Dungeness Valley Lutheran and Trinity United Methodist — are collaborating to offer a Blue Christmas service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave.

The service includes times of silence and prayer. There will also be an opportunity to light a candle and write a prayer card towards the end of the service.

During a time when we are meant to celebrate hope and love, joy and peace, a Blue Christmas service recognizes that this season can be a struggle for many people, organizers say. “It allows for the ‘blue’ feelings we may have around Christmas time,” they said.

The service is for anyone who has lost a loved one during the year, or who is struggling with hardship or sorrow during the holidays, organizers said.
