Nash’s Organic Produce is turning to an artistic endeavor to thank its supporters.

They’ve recruited artists Lynette Brown, Angela Howard Queen, Rita Browning, Brent Wickline and Martha Rudersdorf to paint a large mural to hang in the produce tent at the store, 4681 Sequim-Dungeness Way.

The mural depicts Nash Huber and his wife, Patty McManus-Huber, in front of the Delta Farm on Towne Road. The artists unveil the painting at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at the farm store for the one-year anniversary of its opening. The event includes live music, a performance by poet Mary Lou Sanelli and refreshments.

Brown said the mural project stems from when Huber bought the 1902 Dungeness Creamery building to convert into his new store in 2007.

“The renovations were more extensive than originally anticipated, so the farm decided to reach out to the community for support,” she said.

McManus-Huber said renovations are nearly paid for and future donations go to their education fund to help with workshops and classes, sound equipment for speakers and a projector. Sponsorship levels range from $10 to $5,000, with all names represented on the mural.

Brown said helping with the mural means a lot to her because she’s worked with Huber since she was 16 and he was the first to introduce sustainable agriculture to her.
