February History Tales features Scooter Chapman

Local sportscaster, radio host and columnist Scooter Chapman takes a break from his KONP Radio duties to talk about the history of radio at the Clallam County Historical Society’s History Tales lecture series at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, in the meeting rooms at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Chapman came to Port Angeles as a teenager in 1948 and two years later was hired by KONP, where he worked for many years as a radio announcer and salesman. In 1961, he began working full time at both The Daily News and KONP; in 1988, his career was solely at the radio station.

Chapman wrote a long-running sports column for the Sequim Gazette from 2003-2012.

In 2011, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association elected him to its Hall of Fame.
