Filmmaker visits Sequim Boys & Girls Club

Event was part of Empowerment Month initiative

Filmmaker and motivational speaker Gregory Marks visited the Olympic Peninsula’s Carroll C. Kendall Club in Sequim last week to impart an inspirational message and give members of the Boys & Girls Club a first look at his upcoming feature film “Westbrook: A Wrestler’s Story” in honor of Empowerment Month.

Marks, who has made a tradition of visiting the club each year to encourage youth through the medium of film and personal storytelling, offered club members a behind-the-scenes look at the sports drama he wrote, produced and directed.

“Westbrook is a film made by wrestlers, for wrestlers, with wrestlers,” Marks said. “But more than that, it’s about fighting for community, family, purpose, and fun.”

The visit was part of the Club’s Empowerment Month initiative, designed to help young people discover their strengths and connect with positive role models.

“Having Gregory back here each year means so much to our kids, as he doesn’t just show a movie — he lives the message behind it. And that message resonates with youth who might be finding their way.” said Club Director Tessa Jackson in an announcement about the event.
