The Oct. 4 Art Walk Color Theme is ORANGE! Orange is one of the brighter colors in fall as summer fades away.
Orange is sweet, energizing, zesty, and inspires active participation and encouragement. The warm hue of orange reminds us toasty fires, nesting and organizing, seasonal sweaters, friendship made out of admirable interests, delightful sweets, encouraging teachers and mentors.
You will find works of art and folks supporting the option to dress in shades of orange or sugar and spice smiles as they enjoy an evening on the town with friends and family.
First Friday Art Walk Sequim is a fun and free self-guided tour of local art venues in Sequim on the First Friday of every month from 5-8 p.m. Visit online at www.sequimartwalk.com as your resource to download and print your own map, find out what special events are happening, links, and how you can be part of art.

Eye on art
Art venues for the month of October and Sequim First Friday, from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 4 are the following:
• The North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival Juried Show, “Strong Stitches – Friendship, Cooperation & Uniforms” at The Museum and Arts Center, 175 W. Cedar St., Sequim. This featured art exhibit runs Oct. 1-Nov. 30, with an Artist Reception for First Friday, from 5-8 p.m.. The reception will feature the accordion and banjo music of Helen’s Trio. macsequim.org.
• The artwork of the late Shirley Foss, a Blue Whole Gallery founding member, in retrospect, alongside that of Margo Hankel, a contemporary member of the gallery, will be showcased in the Blue Whole Gallery’s front windows for October at 129 W. Washington St., Sequim. Opening reception 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4.
• At the Sunshine Café, 145 W. Washington St., Sequim, fine art, graphics and cartoons by the late Tim Quinn, a gifted local artist, who left a legacy of artwork throughout the North Olympic Peninsula for all to enjoy. Open for First Friday 5-8 p.m.
• Sally Cays and Patricia Taynton’s traditional artwork and more at Gallery on the Walls, 128 E. Washington St., Sequim. The gallery is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and by appointment on weekends by calling 360-683-5387. Meet the artists First Friday 5-8 p.m.
• Todd Fischer’s watercolor surf art at The Rainshadow Roasting Company, 157 W. Cedar St., Sequim. Sample coffee brewed from beans roasted on premise while enjoying the art. Open for First Friday 5-8 p.m.
• Iris Edey’s botanical watercolors are featured at Pacific Mist Books, 121 W. Washington St., Sequim. Her late husband’s poetry, written as he battled Parkinson’s disease, with illustrations by the artist, also will be featured.
Also Tracie Gulit’s handcrafted stylish creations for the wall, Marilyn Brock’s fused glass sun catchers and magnets and resident artist Jean Wyatt’s place mats, greeting cards, bookmarks, calendars, wall hangings and floor cloths on display. Meet the artist First Friday 5-8 p.m.
• Members of The LARC Art Gallery at the new location at 425 E. Washington St., Sequim, are all featured for October with art showing their interpretation of “A Perfect Day.” Meet the artists on First Friday from 5-8 p.m.
• Millie Harrell from Classy Creations Studio will be showcased at Solar City’s Tesa Boutique & Tanning Retreat at 135 W. Washington St. She creates stained glass pieces and does custom windows for homes.
• Local artists’ work on display plus wine tasting and late evening entertainment to 9 p.m. First Friday at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., Sequim.
• Billy Hamilton and D.J. Gordon’s display of photographic art of various subjects at The Red Rooster Grocery, 134½ W. Washington St., during business hours and meet the artists First Friday from 5-8 p.m.
• Doodlebugs at 138 W. Washington St. is offering a free “Make and Take” between 5-7 p.m.
• R&T Crystals and Beads will have jewelry demonstrations from Paulette Hill and Gail McLain at 158 E. Bell St.
• The following venue will have an artist reception from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6: The Creative Art Group showing art in various styles at The Fifth Avenue, 500 W Hendrickson St.
Daytime tour
The following venues are for viewing during normal October business hours with no reception:
• Randy and Sallie Radock’s artwork on display at Designs by Thomas, 337 W. Washington St., Sequim. Randy Radock’s block prints on display at Olympic Peninsula Gateway Visitors Center, junction of Highways 104 and 19, Port Ludlow. October-December and ongoing display at Port Angeles Fine Arts Center Gift Shop, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
• Nancy Hofmann’s artwork on display at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., as part of the ongoing “Art in the Library Series” through November.
• Do It Yourself Art Show, opening Oct. 11 at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 South Peabody St., as part of the ongoing “Art in the Library Series.” Quirky and out-of-the ordinary artistic creations featuring locally produced arts and crafts which characterize a “do it yourself” approach to artistic expression, including such things as: art “made from scratch,” art made from repurposed or natural materials, functional art, and/or art exploring themes of self-reliance, creative problem solving and resilience. • Skip Kratzer’s “Amazing Car Art and More” at The Good Book, 108 W. Washington St., and Dog House Powder Coating, 503 S. Third St.
• Robert Haspel’s stunning floral photography at Crumb Grabbers Bakery, 492 W. Cedar St., Sequim.
• Scott Erickson’s striking photographic scenes of the Southwest, Alaska, North Olympic Peninsula, plus other locations in the U.S. are displayed at Strait Financial Advice, 193 W. Cedar St., Sequim.
• Local artists’ art on display at Clear Image, 518 N. Sequim Ave., during business hours.
Second Saturday
The following venues will have an artist reception on Second Saturday, from 5-8 p.m. in Port Angeles:
• “Embracing Life through Art … the Journey Back” show at the Landings Mall, Second Level, 115 E Railroad Ave. The show runs Oct. 1-31 with a reception including refreshments and music from 5-8 p.m.
• At the Landings Art Gallery, 115 E Railroad Ave., eight new artists continue a show called “Fresh Paint” for October with a reception from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12. Featured new art includes the cats of oil painter Mike (Barky) Pace, mixed media artist David Haight, the fractal world of Pam Dick, floral pastel work of Irene Loghry, abstract art of Ellie Polk and Terry Grasteit, Diane Kohler’s jewelry and the landscapes of Anne Arscott.
