January is SILVER to celebrate the New Year filled with hope, reflection and starry-eyed plans for the future. The sparkly color of silver represents steely resolve, likeminded affinities, revolutionary receptiveness, imaginative aspirations, ideal ideas and spirited shindigs. To create inclusion among venues, artists and audience, everyone is encouraged to participate in the Art Walk’s monthly color themes as a fun community activity in any creative form they wish to express it.
First Friday Art Walk Sequim is a fun and free self-guided tour of local art venues in Sequim on the First Friday of every month from 5-8 p.m. Visit online at www.sequimartwalk.com as your resource to download and print your own map, find out what special events are happening, links and how you can be part of art. The mission is to create approachable and accessible art and cultural venues that encourage the community to connect and celebrate expression and diversity.

On display
Sequim First Friday Art Venues, 5-8 p.m. Jan. 3, and ongoing January displays (unless otherwise noted):
• At Wind Rose Cellars, enjoy artwork by Henning Erben, live music by Sandy Summers and Howly Slim until 9 p.m., and sample award winning artfully crafted wines at 143 W. Washington St.
• Karen Rozbicki Stringer, fine art photographer, and Janine Hegy, stone mason/jeweler are featured artists of the month at the Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St. Their art show is themed “transformation.” Look for their art in the front windows during January and also meet the artists on First Friday, 5-8 p.m. bluewholegallery.com
• Sally Cays and Patricia Taynton present traditional artwork and more at Gallery on the Walls, 128 E. Washington St.The gallery is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and by appointment on weekends by calling 683-5387. Stop by and meet the artists First Friday, 5-8 p.m.
• Jean Wyatt, resident artist at Pacific Mist Books, 121 W. Washington St., will have her handmade journals featured for January and Marilyn Brock’s fused glass sun catchers also will be on display. Open for First Friday 5-8 p.m.
• Artists Donna Standerwick’s watercolor, oil and pottery and Shirley Mercer’s watercolors are featured at The LARC Art Gallery at 425 E. Washington St. A reception is on First Friday from 5-8 p.m.
• The Sunshine Café, 145 W. Washington St., presents fine art, graphics and cartoons by the late Tim Quinn, a gifted local artist, who left a legacy of artwork throughout the North Olympic Peninsula for all to enjoy. Open for First Friday 5-8 p.m.
• Todd Fischer’s amazing watercolor surf art at The Rainshadow Roasting Company, 157 W. Cedar St. Sample gourmet and exotic coffee brewed from beans roasted and ground on the premises. Open for First Friday 5-8 p.m.
• Award-winning That Takes the Cake features local photographer Tim Snyder, along with silver-themed cupcakes at 171 W. Washington St.
• Colors of Sequim Fine Art Materials at 139 W. Washington St. will have Victor Reventlow providing music and exhibit the art of Marianna Tomaz Greene.
• Doodlebugs at 138 W. Washington St. is offering a free “Make and Take” between 5-7 p.m.
Receptions
The following venue will have an artists reception at 6:30 p.m. Second Friday, Jan. 10:
• Artists Harry von Stark, Nora Lawson, Aaron Wright and other regional artists exhibit their artwork from Jan. 9-April 8 at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., Port Angeles, as part of the ongoing “Art in the Library Series.” Enjoy the art and refreshments with an entertaining Contra Dance Art Blast following at 7 p.m.
No reception
The following venues are for viewing during normal January business hours with no reception:
• The Residents of the Fifth Avenue Retirement Center again present “The Residents Art Show” at The Gallery at the Fifth, 500 W. Hendrickson Road, for January during business hours.
• Dick Hahn’s artwork is on display at the Bank of America, Sequim branch, 114 S. Sequim Ave., now through February during business hours Monday-Saturday.
• Irene Loghry’s pastels and oil paintings featuring water views and botanical art through February at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., as part of the ongoing “Art in the Library Series.”
• Skip Kratzer’s “Amazing Car Art and More” artwork at The Good Book, 108 W. Washington St., and Dog House Powder Coating, 503 S. Third St.
• Scott Erickson’s striking photographic scenes of the Southwest, Alaska, North Olympic Peninsula and other locations in the U.S. are displayed on a rotating basis at Strait Financial Advice, 193 W. Cedar St., Sequim.
• Local artists’ art on display at Clear Image, 518 N. Sequim Ave., during business hours.
