Free concert helps ‘Celebrate Port Angeles!’

Port Angeles’ sesquicentennial and the birthday of Port Angeles resident Anna Nichols combine in Celebrate Port Angeles!, a free concert at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, on the Port Angeles city pier.

This concert also is a benefit for the Salvation Army Food Bank and T.A.F.Y (The Answer for Youth), a local drop-in homeless shelter for young people.

At 6 p.m. the color guard from the local Coast Guard station presents the flag, with a helicopter flyover. The audience joins in the national anthem with the Peninsula Men’s Gospel Singers.

The Gospel Singers, under the direction of Lee Moseley, and the Peninsula Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dewey Ehling, present the first part of the program.

In the program’s second half, local community choruses, church choirs and choral ensembles form a mass choir directed by Moseley to perform patriotic and inspiration numbers and to encourage the audience to sing along on some. The mass choir is accompanied by grand piano, keyboard and a brass ensemble.
