The Clallam Conservation District is partnering with Coastal Farm and Ranch to offer a free pasture renovation workshop from 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, at the Sequim Coastal store, 990 E. Washington St.
Topics include seasonal pasture management, rotational grazing, fertilizing, liming and over-seeding.
Fall is an especially important time of year for pasture grasses, event organizers say, and poor management now can greatly reduce production during the next growing season.
Fall also is a great time to test pasture soil fertility. The Clallam Conservation District offers a low-cost soil testing program of $20 per soil test.
Workshop participants are welcome to bring a soil sample to the workshop that will then be packaged and mailed to an analytical laboratory.
District planners will follow up with workshop participants to discuss test results and fertilizer recommendations.
Directions for collecting a soil sample are provided on the district’s website at www.clallamcd.org.
Because of space limitations, pre-registration is required.
