Genealogy group to hear about ‘Genealogical Jazz’

The Clallam County Genealogical Society’s annual meeting later this month will have a distinctly musical theme.

The group meets at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, at the research center at the CCGS Research Center and Library, 403 E. Eighth St., Port Angeles, where they will vote for the 2024-2025 board members and changes to their by-laws. The brief meeting will be followed by “The Musical ‘Chicago’ and All That Genealogical Jazz” — a program by Mike Karsen — starting at 10 a.m.

There is no cost to attend.

The Broadway musical and Hollywood movie “Chicago” was based on the stories of two real-life women by the name of Belva and Beulah. Just as in the show and movie, these women killed their lovers. By collecting standard genealogical documents, Karsen pieces together their lives as well as placing their tales into the context of Chicago history.

Karsen is a professional speaker who solves genealogical mysteries in unusual ways. He is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and the Genealogical Speakers Guild Illinois. He has presented more than 300 talks on genealogy topics locally and nationally, and has published many articles.

He is the author of the JewishGen website “Guide to Jewish Genealogy in Chicagoland.” He earned an undergraduate degree in mathematics/computer science and a master’s in operations research with 30 years in telecommunications management.

All are invited to attend the meeting and presentation online.
