Author Kate McDermott teaches how to make and shape flaky pastry dough and use different fillings for mini hand pies and cinnamon sugar treats at a free online presentation hosted by the North Olympic Library System (NOLS).

NOLS hosts the hour-long baking session complete with follow-along instructions starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19.

The class is limited to 100 people and requires registration. Register at www.nols.org, or by calling 360-417-8500, x2; upon registration, registrants will be sent a Zoom link and a list of ingredients and tools.

McDermott, author of “Art of the Pie,” has donated her time to teach the class.

A James Beard Finalist, McDermott is also the author of “Home Cooking with Kate McDermott” (2018) and “Pie Camp: The Skills You Need to Make Any Pie You Want” (Oct 2020).
