Green Thumbs presenter to talk worm composting

Learn all about worm composting at the next Green Thumbs Garden Tips Education Series presentation, set to air online at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 23, via a Zoom meeting at extension.wsu.edu/ clallam/events.

Master Gardener Judy Mann will explain how worm composting can help recycle food scraps and other organic material into a nutrient rich soil amendment, and present information on the multiple benefits of kitchen composting with a worm bin.

Lecture “attendees” are encouraged to set up a Zoom account, then use their email and password to sign in to this and other Zoom meetings.

Mann, a Washington State Master Gardener since 2005, has been enjoying the rewards of her worm bin for more than 10 years and will share an easy way to make one at home. She will discuss feeding, caring for, keeping worms happy, harvesting and using the valuable end-product which is vermicompost.

Mann received the Golden Trowel Award in 2015 for her contributions to the program and has achieved Lifetime Achievement status with WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners. Her favorite Master Gardener Activity is the Youth Enrichment Program.

The Green Thumbs Garden Tips education series is sponsored by WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners and is held the second and fourth Thursday each month through October; in November, December and January, one lecture is offered. Scheduled presentations are subject to change.
