A new men’s group through My Choices, formerly Care Net, offers two chances each week to discuss just what it means to be a man.

Tim Richards, a former pastor, and the Rev. Patrick Lovejoy of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Port Angeles lead the weekly 24-hour video series by Dr. Robert Lewis.

Richards leads the Sequim session from 6 a.m.-7:30 a.m. Tuesdays, at the LaVina Cafe, 111 River Road, and Lovejoy leads the Port Angeles discussion at 711 E. Second St., at the same time. Sessions began Oct. 2 in Sequim, and begin Oct. 5 in Port Angeles.

Richards said he discovered Lewis’ teachings in the book “Raising a Modern Day Knight,” and it was one the most helpful tools available to him as a young dad on how to raise boys.

Lewis draws inspiration from his book and other materials for the 24-week series “Quest for Authentic Manhood.”

Richards said topics include what it takes to be a real man and effective father, developing character qualities, and roles in the family and workplace.

My Choices, a crisis pregnancy center since 1985, sponsors the event.

Richards said the agency believes helping men become good husbands and fathers is an important part of reducing abortions and helping to ensure that as many children as possible grow up with with an active, engaged father in their lives.
