Growing and using herbs

Selinda Barkhuis will share her experience and expertise in growing and utilizing culinary herbs, at noon Thursday, March 9, in the county commissioners meeting room of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

She will explain her strategy in growing dozens of soup herbs, year-round salad weeds and sleepy tea herbs.

She will talk about poisonous plants to remove from the garden and share her basic soup recipe, her favorite weed foraging book and her basic sleepy tea herb processing tips.

Barkhuis uses intensive and organic gardening techniques to grow a wide variety of fruit, vegetables and herbs on an urban lot in central Port Angeles and regularly presents on gardening topics at local venues. Her garden was featured in the 2012 Master Gardener’s Petals and Pathway Garden Tour.

Her presentation is part of the Green Thumb Gardening Tips educational series sponsored by the Clallam County WSU Master Gardeners, which is presented on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St. in Part Angeles. It is free and open to the public, however donations are accepted to help cover copying costs for handouts. Attendees are invited to bring a lunch.
